Recorded video, live-quality results.
Detect license plates from files, not just streams.

A new feature was added to Metrici: the possibility to analyze a recorded video stream to detect license plates as if they were on a live stream. The add-on was introduced following requests from Metrici partners, who needed this tool as investigation support in sensitive installations.

The implementation facilitates quick access to recordings and data extracted from the files. Processing time depends on the duration of the video, as detections are performed in real-time speed and cannot be sped up.

All videos uploaded to the Metrici interface are automatically analyzed, with license plate reading performed to detect, recognize, and register vehicle license plates along with the type of vehicle.

LPR Video File Processing — License plate detection in action

Everything you need for
video-based investigations.

Where results appear: All detected plates and vehicle types are stored in the LPR journal and can be searched, filtered, and browsed directly from the interface — just like live detections.

As always, Metrici offers a very high level of reading reliability, an intuitive installation process, and an intuitive user experience.

You will finally benefit from quick and convenient search and browsing of registered license plates through the interface.

Notice that the timestamp of the detections begins with the moment the file was uploaded to the system, not the date it was recorded.

Plate reads are stored and timestamped with the current date, allowing operators to search license plates and instantly retrieve the associated witness photo.

On the web interface, the search results are displayed and you can view snapshots and thumbnail images of the license plates and the vehicles.

This will enable law enforcement, surveillance centers, or other organizations to quickly access recorded video stream data.

File requirements
and system limits.

Supported Formats & Limits
📁
Accepted formats .avi and .mp4 video files only. No other formats are supported.
📦
Maximum file size 2 GB per file due to HTTP upload limitations. Larger files must be split into smaller segments.
⏱️
Processing speed Proportional to video duration. Detections are performed in real-time speed.
🔄
Parallel processing Each camera processes one file at a time, but different cameras can process files simultaneously.

How to process
a recorded video file.

To effectively begin analyzing a video, you will need to configure settings in both the Metrici Control Panel and the Metrici Interface.

  1. Add the camera in the Interface where the ID and the "Metrici authkey" are generated.
  2. Add a virtual camera in the Control Panel and set it as a Video File Processing camera.
  3. Configure the camera just like any other real IP camera added to the Metrici Control Panel: authkey, ID, reporting URL path, and other parameters.
  4. Select the camera you want to analyze a recorded video on (if multiple cameras are in the system).
  5. From the Browse button, search for the file you want to upload.
  6. Click Save and wait for the upload to reach 100%. Until the analysis is complete, no other file can be uploaded for the same camera.
  7. The upload completes when all LPR readings are done and the processing is complete. Only after that can you upload another file for investigation.
